He is in fact an Octopus (not a squid!) and octopuses swim using a method called jet propulsion. This award can cover all manner of skills related to propulsion - please refer to the Teacher Guide for more details.

Note: The SpongeBob SquarePants ‘Dare to be Square’ swimming awards series have no specific learning outcomes, which gives swimming teachers and coaches the opportunity and freedom, to reward important milestones and achievements – and it’s not exclusive to learn to swim. Such is the wide appeal of SpongeBob; they are all encompassing and can be used by:

o   Learn to Swim - to reward / motivation participants in swimming lessons

o   Schools – to support school swimming lessons

o   Open Water Swimming Coaches

o   Swimming Clubs

o   Any Aquatic Sport Activity, from diving to water polo, and artistic swimming.
