Autism Swim (AS) provides a range of professional development services for aquatic professionals working with Neurodiverse participants in and around the water. Autism Swim and STA have partnered to offer introductory training modules for those not quite ready to undertake the full training and certification. In this individual training module, Introduction to Neurodiversity, we talk through what characteristics we might see in our participants who are Neurodiverse, and how we can support their needs, preferences and goals in aquatic sessions.
By the end of this module, providers will be able to:
- Understand what Neurodiversity means and the criteria that needs to be met to receive an autism diagnosis
- Identify strengths and challenges of our participants
- Understand the three areas of the brain and how they relate to one another, specifically in the context of teaching our participants new skills
- Considerations to ensure a successful lesson/session.
